Graduation Requirements for Queensgate International School
At Queensgate International School, students must meet specific requirements to earn the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). These requirements ensure a well-rounded education that prepares students for future academic and career success.
For Students Starting Grade 9 in 2023 or Earlier
Compulsory Credits
- 4 credits in English (1 credit per grade)
- 3 credits in Mathematics (including at least 1 credit in Grade 11 or 12)
- 2 credits in Science
- 1 credit in Canadian History (Grade 10)
- 1 credit in Canadian Geography (Grade 9)
- 1 credit in Arts
- 1 credit in Health and Physical Education
- 1 credit in French as a Second Language
- 0.5 credit in Civics and 0.5 credit in Careers
- 0.5 credit in Civics and citizenship
Additional Information
Students must also complete courses from the following groups: Additional English, Native languages, First Nations, Métis, and Inuit studies, classical or international languages, social sciences and humanities, Canadian and world studies, guidance and career education, cooperative education, American Sign Language, religious education, etc.
Group 1: English/Francophone education, French as a second language; cooperative education; American Sign Language; religious education.
Group 2: Health and physical education; the arts; business studies; French as a second language; cooperative education.
Group 3: Science (Grades 11 or 12); technological education; French as a second language; cooperative education from the arts; cooperative education; American Sign Language; religious education.
Maximums: Up to 2 credits in French as a second language from Group 1 and 1 from either Group 2 or 3; up to 2 credits in cooperative education from Group 1, 2, or 3; up to 2 credits in cooperative education.
Optional Credits
- Earn 12 optional credits through courses in the school's program calendar.
- Up to 4 credits from approved credit programs.
For Students Starting Grade 9 in 2024 or Later
Compulsory Credits
- 4 credits in English (1 credit per grade)
- 3 credits in Mathematics (Grade 9; Grade 10; and 1 credit in Grade 11 or 12)
- 2 credits in Science
- 1 credit in the Arts (Grade 9 or 10)
- 1 credit in Canadian History (Grade 10)
- 1 credit in Canadian Geography (Grade 9)
- 1 credit in Health and Physical Education
- 1 credit in French as an additional language
- 0.5 credit in Civics and citizenship
- 0.5 credit in Career studies
- 1 credit from the STEM-related course group
- 1 credit from the well-being group
Additional Requirements
- Business studies
- Computer studies
- Technological education
- Additional mathematics or science credits
- Earn 12 optional credits through courses in the school's program calendar.
- Up to 4 credits from approved credit programs.
Financial Literacy Requirement
Starting in 2024, as part of the compulsory Grade 10 mathematics course, students must achieve a mark of 70% or higher to pass this requirement.
Literacy Requirement
To graduate, students must meet the provincial literacy standard by either passing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT), or if eligible, by completing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OSSLC), see either the OSSLC manual.
If you've already passed the literacy test at another school, this requirement is satisfied.
Community Involvement Hours
- Complete a minimum of 40 hours of unpaid community service. This requirement helps students gain life awareness, impact their communities, and develop a sense of social responsibility.
- Resources: A Community Involvement Guide and tracking sheet will be provided. Our Guidance Team is available to assist with finding suitable activities.
